Security and Fieldbus Systems – A Contradiction?

As interconnections between fieldbus systems and open networks like the Internet become more popular, security questions gain importance. This article gives an overview about relevant terms and concepts as well as their application to fieldbusses. To increase security on the field level we propose an approach based on the proven concept of smart cards.
