Reusability by Objectoriented Hardware Modeling

Reuse of previously designed modules as components of new microelectronic systems is currently regarded to be the most feasible approach to develop complex systems in-time and at reasonable cost. This contribution investigates necessary properties of reusable components and the applicability of objectoriented modeling paradigms to enable these properties. Finally an objectoriented extension of the hardware description language VHDL will briefly be introduced which has been developed and implemented as part of a research project funded by the EU.
