In requirements engineering for embedded systems the fundamental functional and non-functional requirements for a system are captured, analysed, discussed, fixed, validated and documented. We suggest a stepwise proceeding in which the requirements are structured in terms of different system views. Additionally, structuring takes place on basis of a reference architecture for embedded systems. In this paper we discuss the system views with their associated description techniques, introduce the four basic components of the reference architecture and explain the requirements that must be formulated for them.
