This paper presents a real-time system based on off-the-shelf Intel dual processor Pentium II/III PCs. One processor ist running the Linux operating system, the other one runs a real-time application in parallel. The major benefit of this architecture is the combination of the advantages of both operating variants. On the one hand the functionality of a standard operating system regarding visualization, development of applications and integration of existing device drivers, on the other hand the real-time attributes and performance of a state-of-the-art processor without the usual overhead which is needed to integrate the system in the operating environment like GUIs and networking capabilities.
