When business transactions are conducted between people, it is not just a question of the means of communication. The positive identity of the communication partner, the transaction venue and the provability of consultations may be significant. Identity and venue are obvious to the parties involved in normal, direct communication. The contents can be attested by a witness. These aspects are lost, however, with the deployment of telecommunication systems. In this paper, we illustrate how existing telephony services can be expanded with new mechanisms, in order to provide some of the aspects of direct communication – binding nature of the contents and venue – even for business transactions with indirect communication.
