PopGen – Population-based Recruitment of Patients and Controls for the Analysis of Complex Genotype-phenotype Relationships

Keywords: Biology and Genetics, epidemiology, biobanks, complex disease, relative risk

The relative risks of genetic variants associated with complex human diseases can be efficiently assessed by the complete ascertainment of cases in a confined geographical region. The PopGen project, funded by the German Federal Research Ministry (BMBF), pursues this approach in the most northern part of the country (Schleswig-Holstein). In particular, PopGen collects comprehensive genetic epidemiological data for cardiovascular, neuropsychiatric and environmental disease.
