Network Management in Fieldbus Systems

Configuration, maintenance and other tasks summarized by the term network management become more and more important for large fieldbus installations. Hence, this article starts with a brief overview of network management and its connection to the OSI-model. Afterwards, the most interesting network-management services are shortly described and implementations dedicated to some selected fieldbus systems are shown. Finally, we discuss current technologies of dynamic networking that might have an increasing impact for modern fieldbus systems.
