Java in Embedded Systems

The advantages of the Java programming language are due to their platform independent manner also applicable in embedded systems and in this context especially for the realization of distributed intelligent networks. The article focuses on the originally introduced standards EmbeddedJava and PersonalJava. These two standards are detached by the new Java 2 platform and their specialization the Java 2 Micro Edition. The last part of the article concentrates on the specification, for Java based real-time embedded systems.
