Java and distributed Systems

This article reviews the offerings of Java for the programming of distributed applications. We introduce the underlying concepts of remote method invocation (RMI) and of CORBA. The implementation of applications using the two technologies is in our focus. Finally we briefly sketch other Java approaches to distributed computing.
