Driver-Information Systems (DIS) are highly integrated electronic systems, that allow drivers to be informed, to navigate, communicate and be entertained. The design of the human machine interface (HMI) is driven by abilities, expectations and needs of the users. Besides a most usable interface, the compliance with safety criteria and the creation of an attractive appearance are in focus. The Cascade, a 1DIN size DIS of Harman Becker Automotive Systems, is used as an example to show problems, processes, solutions and perspective for the creation on HMIs of DIS.
