Control engineering plays a significant role as innovative technology for products and production systems in the field of automation and robotics. Assisted by decreasing cost, performance-ratio of control components development of PC-based, open and modular control systems shows fast progress. As a result of the project IQ2000, an object-oriented realtime-Framework was developed at Fraunhofer IPA, which incorporates the system requirements described above. Evaluation of the IQ2000 system architecture was done in two applications, a manipulator arm designed for testing purposes and a mobile robot, working in household environment.
