With the enormous advances in communication technology, the information that was originally managed in isolated data and document collections is glued to a web of information components, called information space. To cope with the implied information flood, a new infrastructure is required that supports coordination processes and composition of services and that guarantees their correct execution even in case of system failures and concurrency. This article sketches the concept of a hyperdatabase, which provides a highly scalable and distributed infrastructure of a large, dynamically changing information space. The basic idea is that each cooperating service is equipped with an additional layer, called hyperdatabase layer. While the network is responsible for transferring bytes through the information space, the hyperdatabase layer besides other tasks will correctly execute processes on top of existing services.
