Fieldbus Systems for Home- and Building Automation

Nowadays, fieldbus systems (also called small area networks) become more and more important, especially in the area of building automation. This article gives a brief introduction of the fieldbus systems for building- and home automation. A short description about its characteristics and differences compared to fieldbus systems for other application areas is given. Finally a short outlook on the future shows possible scenarios of the so called “smart home” by using highly sophisticated devices which are connected via a fieldbus system.
