In this paper we illustrate in which way large university lectures can be enriched by various e-learning components. In particular, we used our learning management system to administer study questions, group work, knowledge tests, discussion groups, and finally the self-regulated study of learning materials by the use of an e-lecture covering the complete lecture contents. Our results show that the students welcomed all e-learning components, were stimulated by these measures to become more active learners throughout the term, and finally gained better learning outcomes as measured by our final exam.
