EMBASSI is a project funded by the German Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF) and addresses innovative methods of man-machine interaction, where "machine" explicitly refers to technical systems consisting of a variety of distributed, net-worked devices. The objective of EMBASSI is to develop a framework for intuitive, multimodal and goal-based interaction for technical infrastructures of every day life. This article describes the current architcture and concepts to enable multimodal input and anthropomorphic interaction. Furthermore, it gives examples how the development results are incorporated into application scenarios in the areas of home, automotive and public terminal environments.
