Comparison of various approaches to make complex numbers available in Java

This paper studies several technical alternatives to introduce complex numbers into Java. The class-based notation of complex numbers has many disadvantages; one of which – the performance problem – can be solved by semantic expansion. Since it is unlikely that general purpose value classes and operator overloading will be added to Java, the paper proposes and discusses a specific extension of Java for complex numbers.
