Coding and Transmission Aspects for Wireless Video Applications

The limited system resources transmit power and bandwidth in mobile communications require efficient transmission and coding techniques. The ever-changing channel conditions as well as multiple users pose new challenges to wireless multimedia transmission. In this work, typical mobile video applications and characteristics of mobile channels will be presented. Improvements of state of the art techniques including source coding and transmission techniques as well as examples utilizing MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 are discussed.
