A Tool Prototype for the Reuse Oriented Design of Embedded Systems, Part 1

This paper presents a tool prototype for the design of embedded systems. The tool prototype is characterized by the strict reuse of specifications, functions, prototypes, architectures and component implementations for hardware/software systems. It supports the design through the availability of a domain oriented knowledge base, which contains all formal descriptions of the units which can be reused. The designer specifies the functional and non-functional requirements for new systems on the system level in an informal manner. He evaluates the solution-architectures and implementations produced automatically by the design tools.
In the contribution the concepts and the hierarchical layer model of the knowledge base are presented. In part 2, an overview follows to the means and tools for building-up and maintenance of knowledge bases as well as for specifying, configuring, analyzing and for the evaluation of new systems. The concepts and their realization were tested by a case study “robotic controls”.
