Hydrogen bond formation is important in drug-receptor interactions.
Therefore the hydrogen bond formation of the drugs papaverine and pentazocine with alcohols and phenols were studied. The results suggest that hydrogen bonding is more prominent in papaverine than hydrophobic interactions whereas the reverse is the case for pentazocine where hydrophobic interactions overweigh its hydrogen bonding capability.
