Structure of 13 new polytypes of cadmium iodide

The use of molecular layer notation t-o-f for the identification of MX₂ polytypes is presented. An application of different symbolic notations of MX₂ crystals for the polytypic structure analysis is discussed. The structures of 13 new polytypes of Cdl₂, have been determined: 10H₃ : f2f1f2of1 ; 10H₄ : tf2(o)₂f1 ; 10H₅ : tf4tf2f2 ; 12H₈ : f2f1f2(o)₂f1 ; 12H₉ : tf2(o)₃f1 ; 20H₁₄ : (t)₇f5tf4 ; 24H₁₀ : (t)₇f2f1(t)₃f2(o)₂f1 ; 42H₂ : (t)₄f2f1(t)₃f2of1(t)₃(f2of1)₂ ; 30R₃ : tf5f4f2f1 ; 30R₄ : f2of2f1f1 ; 42R₂ : (t)₂f4tf2f1f5 ; 54R₄ : (t)₄f5(t)₂f1f1 ; 78R₂ : (t)₈f5(t)₂f1f1.
