The molar conductivities (Λ) of solutions of n-tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate (NBu4BPh4) in acetone (ACE) and acetonitrile (ACN) have been measured at eight different temperatures in the range from 283.15 to 303.15K. The Λ values have been analysed using the Lee–Wheaton conductivity equation in the Pethybridge-Taba modification and the limiting molar conductivities (Λo) and the association equilibrium constants (KA) have been derived. The centre-to-centre distances (α) of the formed ion pairs have been considered to be equal to the Bjerrum´s distance. The limiting ion conductivities (λo±) have been evaluated according to the method of Krumgalz and the experimental λo± values have been compared with the theoretical λo+ values calculated from the empirical equation of Gill. The thermodynamic functions, Gibbs energy (ΔGoA), enthalpy (ΔHoA), and entropy (ΔSoA) for the ion-pair formation process as well as the activation energy of the ionic movement (ΔH∗) have been evaluated.
