Using the concentric spherical model and the core model for the powder reaction rate, a comparison was performed by varying the number of contacts points, NAB, from 3 to 35000. The two models are not consistent with each other even if the number of contact points per particle exceeds 10000, except for the very early stage of the reaction. Then, if the reaction proceeds through the contact point, the concentric spherical model is applicable and if it does not, the core model will be applicable, respectively. The concentric spherical model of uni-directional diffusion is suitable for the reported experimental data of powder reaction systems of ZrO2-CaO, Fe2O3-V2O5, Al2O3-ZnO and Al2O3-CuO particularly when NAB is smaller than 10000.
